Kalam' meaning pen and 'kari' meaning art, Kalamkari literally translates to 'pen craft' created using natural pens such as bamboo. Another form of Kalamkari coming from the coastal town of Machiliptanam in Andhra Pradesh mostly uses hand blocks for printing.
