Description
Crafted in airy cambric cotton, this kaftan features a comfort fit profile accentuated by kimono sleeves and a fluid ankle length fall. A round neckline with a slit adds subtle detail, while the hand printed kalamkari motifs lend artisanal charm. Ideal for lounging or day outings, it pairs beautifully with cotton pants or leggings. Add handcrafted bangles and open sandals for a balanced look that is relaxed yet culturally expressive.
Craft Details
Kalam' meaning pen and 'kari' meaning art, Kalamkari literally translates to 'pen craft' created using natural pens such as bamboo. The motifs that adorn the fabric focus on flora, fauna and human forms. This art form is practised in the Sri Kalahasti district of Andhra Pradesh. Another form of Kalamkari coming from the coastal town of Machiliptanam in Andhra Pradesh mostly uses hand blocks for printing.
